The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) was launched in July 2015 with the motto of 'Har Khet Ko Paani' (water to every field) and 'Per Drop More Crop'.

The scheme aims to:

• Expand cultivable area under assured irrigation
• Improve on-farm water use efficiency to reduce wastage of water
• Enhance the adoption of precision-irrigation and other water-saving technologies
• Enhance recharge of aquifers and introduce sustainable water conservation practices

PMKSY has the following major components:

• Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP): Focuses on faster completion of ongoing Major and Medium Irrigation projects
• Har Khet Ko Pani (HKKP): Focuses on source augmentation, distribution, ground water development, lift irrigation, diversion of water from water plenty to water scarce areas
• Per Drop More Crop (PDMC): Focuses on micro-irrigation systems like drip and sprinkler irrigation to improve water use efficiency
• Watershed Development: Focuses on ridge area treatment, drainage line treatment, soil and moisture conservation, rainwater harvesting

Under the Per Drop More Crop component, the scheme provides:

• Subsidy up to 55% for small and marginal farmers and 45% for other farmers for micro-irrigation systems
• Financial assistance for water lifting devices, water harvesting structures, and secondary storage structures
• Support for extension activities, training, and capacity building

The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in coordination with the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Ministry of Rural Development.
